I have been a nurse since 1993 so about 30 years now. I spent 17 years on a surgical intermediate care/ ICU step down unit. This unit was a very fast paced work environment. Our patients were very acute as they were post surgical patients. We had to monitor our patients closely and advocate for them when we noticed changes to their condition. Then I worked on a cardiac floor that specialized in congestive heart failure. Little did I know at the time that I would be one of these patients in my future. I worked with many exceptional, smart nurses and patient care technicians. I learned so much in my years as a nurse and I made some really great friends throughout the years. The last ten years I have worked as a Thoracic Oncology Nurse Navigator in the BMP Thoracic Surgery Practice. My Thoracic Family is so important to me. I was an integral part of the committee that developed the Lung Cancer Screening Program in 2014. I am very proud of this project. Screening has saved many lives!
I have dedicated my career to caring for others in the hospital as well as in my personal life. It is a very different experience to be on the other side. It has taught me to be patient and kind. It has also helped me realize how important it is to advocate for yourself or to have an advocate with you. I am also proud of myself for the many times that I was the advocate for my patients. I have been fortunate to have a great heart transplant team behind me. Sometimes I feel that I know too much and I get anxious when I feel certain symptoms but my medical team is very responsive and reassuring when I contact them. I am very lucky 🍀
I had some of the best nurses while I was in the hospital. The medical team was awesome too. Honestly do not have one bad thing to say about my hospital stay and recovery at Mass General Hospital. Although the food could be better lol 😆
I am so grateful for my special new heart and everyone that has helped me through this journey.

You are an amazing nurse and I was always glad to know you were on my shift back on S4. Loved running into you introducing the lung cancer screening program and your role to primary care (in East Longmeadow) back in 2015, or 2016, I think? What a great role for you, and you should be proud of what you accomplished there! These days, I am reviewing charts for serious chronic conditions, and I can see the lives saved or prolonged, and it's really awesome. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Kelly, you have always been patient, kind, and caring. You have saved more lives than you will ever know! It’s hard being a patient. Thank you for always caring about others … you are a very special nurse, mother, sister, wife , and … to me ... a very special niece! ❤️🍀
I am very happy to hear that you and David finally got to go to the camper. As far as your meds go I am glad that things are a little better. Kelly, you have from day one been an exceptional and caring nurse and always will be. Love 💞 😘 you as always.
I had the pleasure of watching you in those 6B days, you amazed me every day with you patience and knowledge my friend. I wished I had you when things went south for me last year but I also remember you turning me the right when when Alex was sick. I remembered the things you taught me and used them to my advantage. You are now and always will be one of the most special people in my life. Your patients and coworkers are lucky you were the chosen nurse. I love you, forever
You are one of the best nurses I know! Anything but average for sure ❤️
